Green Logistics at Schenker-Seino Co., Ltd.: ISO14001 Certified “Rinku Logistics Center” in Osaka

DB Schenker wants to become the leading Green Logistics service provider. To achieve carbon reductions of 20% by 2020, the company has defined various focal points and actions to optimize energy efficiency. In Freight Forwarding, for example, we can offer less CO2 emissions and energy consumption by modal shift, which is the change or the combination of several transportation modes. In Contract Logistics, another main business segment, stationary facilities such as logistics centers, terminals and hubs are to be optimized in regard to reducing CO2 emissions.

Under DB Schenker's environmental initiatives, the company has successfully obtained ISO14001 certificates in many countries, including here in Japan. Sustainability is one of the most important responsibilities for us and we should understand any impact to the environment from our business and make our daily operations more environmentally friendly in technical and economical ways.

Rinku Logistics Center, Schenker-Seino's main logistics facility in Osaka, has been ISO 14001 certified since April 2009 and we are taking the following measures to reduce the environmental effects:

  • Reducing the consumption of electricity in the facility
  • Reducing paper (printed documents) used in the facility
  • Reducing waste by recycling and segregating packaging materials
  • Reducing the consumption of fossil fuels by better load efficiency, improved maintenance of trucks, eco-driving, usage of electric forklift etc.
We have also introduced a 5S campaign (*1), which is a method of organizing and managing the workspace and workflows with the intent to improve efficiency by eliminating waste and by optimizing vital processes.

DB Schenker has set up a special website for its policies and actions for sustainability, named "DB Eco Program". Please visit and enjoy the website: www.dbecoprogram.com
